It is a sign of connection
Homesickness is a normal response to missing people, places and routines you love. It often comes in waves, and can appear months after arrival.
Things that can help
- Build small routines: a regular walk, a weekly call home, cooking a familiar meal.
- Find familiar things locally: a community centre, a place of worship, a grocery shop.
- Notice what you miss most, and look for a version of it here.
- Talk about it. Many students feel the same.
When to seek support
If homesickness stops you sleeping, eating or attending classes, contact your university wellbeing team or GP.
