Getting around: public transport in the UK
Buses, trains, railcards and travelling safely.

Local travel
Most cities have buses with contactless payment. Many offer student passes. In London, a contactless card or phone works across the Tube, buses and trains.
Trains
Booking ahead is usually cheaper. A 16-25 Railcard (also available to full-time students over 25) gives a discount on most fares. Plan journeys at National Rail.
Staying safe
Keep your phone charged, share your journey with a friend late at night, and use licensed taxis or ride apps rather than unbooked cars.
